He Dreamed

Have you ever considered that God was a dreamer
when eternity entered his thoughts?
He had a great vision and he already knew
that the whole thing would not be for naught.

With playbook in hand he wrote it all down
deciding the time and the place;
and, even with foresight and knowledge of all
his decision was not made in haste.

From Adam and Eve his descendants began
and multiplied outward from Eden
until it was time for Emmanuel
when God became flesh through his seed.

He dreamed to become his own sacrifice
He dreamed and made it all real...
To stand within his very own dream
so he could know how we feel.

He felt the pain of the nails they pounded
in the hands and the feet of his son.
He felt his son’s disappointment
at how hard the battles are won.

Some dreams can change in the dark of the night
when the rain and the thunder take hold
and feeling compassion for both you and I,
he made a decision quite bold.

His son would be the new covenant
a promise of forgiveness and love
and he placed in our hearts our very own dream
of a heavenly haven above.

He placed in our hearts his own vision
of a time when he’ll come again
to reclaim all his precious descendants
when once more his son he will send.

Let us raise up our voices and praise him!
Let us show him that we understand.
Let us join him in his re-creation
of his dream from the playbook of man.
